Bad Acne: Tips For How To Get Rid Of Acne Fast

People with bad acne usually suffer from painful pustules and deep cysts that often lead to eruptions in the skin.  Untreated, these eruptions can cause deep damage, even permanent scarring.  Bad acne takes many years to treat because of the different methods employed by dermatologists. But with proper medication and treatment, acne can be improved and treated effectively.

Excision and Drainage:
If acne does not respond well to medication, some doctors may prescribe manual draining to heal the inflammed skin.   This process involves special skills and should be performed only by a professional dermatologist. Obviously, this is not a home-based procedure since the patient lacks not only the skill but does not have the sterile condition to perform the operation.

Injections:
If an untreated and inflamed cyst ruptures, it often results in immediate scarring.  To prevent these, dermatologists usually lessens the inflammation by injecting the affected skin with a substance called interlesional corticosteroid, a chemical that also promotes healing. The subtance melts the cyst and even softens the pimple for easy extraction.

Isotretinoin:
Isotretinoin is a very potent drug, which is why it is only used for severe cases of medication-resistant acne condition.  It is also the most popularly used anti-acne drug today since it treats symptoms at an early stage.  Though effective, the drug, however, is strictly regulated and prescribed because of the many serious side effects identified with it, including chest pains, skin dryness, diarrhea, painful swallowing, and depression.

Oral Antibiotics and Contraceptives:
Some doctors treat acne by prescribing oral antibiotics.  The antibiotics help in altering the hormone level, which is believed to play an important role in acne-producing symptoms.  The treatment starts with a large dosage which is then lessened as the condition stabilizes. Antibiotics, however, is not one hundred percent fool proof in treating acne since it can actually develop a resistance to the treatment.  If it does, then the patient needs a new medication to treat the problem.

Though oral contraceptives are known to be effective in healing acne, they are not, however, long-term cures.  Oral contraceptives are not advised for women who are over 35 years old, who suffer from migraine and headaches, and those with a smoking problem.
